Pinoys Can’t Live By Fish Alone

15 January 2009 2 Comments

A Filipino American couple is being sued by The Missionary Sisters of Sacred Heart over tuyo(dried fish) and tinapa(smoked fish). The dispute began when the nuns smelled a rotting smell thinking it was a rotting corpse and eventually firemen located the smell emanating from the apartment of Michael and Gloria Lim.

The nuns own the apartment building the couple are living in. The nuns describe the stench as “foul and harmful odors”. The couple are cooking huge amounts of the dried and smoked fish on their apartment and they have stated that the fish are their business. The tenants on the building are divided on the issue but there is a housing rule that states: Cooking smelly food is not allowed. The couple are being sued for $75,000(ironically that amount of money can buy a lot of tuyo).
