Cancer Chooses No Gender, No Class
Cancer
Cancer is a dreaded disease. Its a fact almost everyone knows. Poverty and misinformation/lack-of-information are one of the primary reasons people find cancer out at the last possible minute.
Some Cancer Facts
-Some viruses can cause cancer. Examples:
*Epstein-Barr(strain of herpes)-can cause Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
*HPV(human papillomavirus )-causes warts and cervical cancer(don’t worry ladies there is a vaccine for HPV talk to your doctor about it.
*Hepatitis B and C- can cause liver cancer.
-Nicotine can cause several forms of cancer like cancers of the lung, larynx, head, neck, stomach, bladder, kidney, oesophagus and pancreas.
Cancer Chooses No Gender, No Class
Cancer is a universal disease. It is not a nutrient deficiency that most impoverished people suffer from. Several celebrities have caught cancer and many unknown faces have also suffered. Rudy Fernandez have succumbed to cancer late last year and was grieved not only by the Filipino celebrity community but also by the whole nation.
Cancer Warriors
Patrick Swayze
He was a great actor with several hits under his belt. Then went into anonymity due to his pancreatic cancer. He is now making a comeback on a new TV show titled The Beast.
Rommel Adducul
NCAA, PBL and MBA MVP. Asian All-Star. He made it big on all levels of play(except in the PBA). He enjoyed a resurgence as a Center for Purefoods before being diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer. His treatment was successful. Now he is the back again with Purefoods as its back-up center.
Notable celebrities with cancer are Francis Magalona(artist) and Corazon Aquino(1st woman president of the Philippines) both are still battling cancer with favorable results but they have yet to comeback from their respective work.
In A Nutshell
Cancer is a very serious disease it can strike whoever be susceptible to it. We can prevent it by eating and living right. Boxing great Flash Elorde died of lung cancer because he was a chain smoker. Living right only decreases our chances for cancer it does not eliminate it. Death is imminent but we can prolong our life.
We should not let the specter of death, whether cancer, AIDS, pneumonia or even a cold hinder us from living our lives to the fullest. There are a million other virus, bacteria and other diseases out there and our best defense is a healthy body. Being healthy makes illness less frightening. The best defense to being sick is to live a happy and fruitful life because we only have one life to live anyway.
*Last dec my mom’s cousin died from breast cancer. My aunt is sick with a rare form of skin cancer(thank god it doesn’t need chemo) and My great aunt succumbed to the breast cancer last 2005.
